Analyzing your Instagram account is essential for any type of improvement. No matter what it is you are doing. By analyzing your Instagram account, you can learn more about your strategy– what works and what doesn’t, and what your followers like and what they dislike. There are so many things to evaluate and measure, so it can get a little overwhelming knowing where to start. But when knowing what to look for, finding it is quite easy.

By getting a better understanding of your page, you can adapt what you have learned to make your engagement better and understand how you can improve and grow your page even more. In this article, I’ll be teaching you how to analyze your Instagram account to boost your results.

There are several ways you can monetize your Instagram account on.

Third-party apps

This was the most common (and only way) of analyzing your Instagram page before Instagram came out with their Insights analytics feature, but more on that later. There are a whole bunch of insight applications that you can use to get a better understanding of your page’s performance, and there are of course those that are extremely effective and that provide you with great insights and rich, detailed information. Some cost, some are free

Most of the apps provide an overview of things like new followers or most popular media. The most common information you will get from third-party Instagram analytics apps are:

  • New followers
  • Lost followers
  • Users that are not following you back
  • Followers that you don’t follow back
  • Ghost followers (people who never have engaged with your page but follow you)

Other common metrics are:

  • Reach
  • Impressions

When Instagram launched their own analytics tool that was built-in inside the app, they decreased the need for using third-party tools to get access to key Instagram information about their page and their performance. Why would people use third-party apps that costed money when they can use a built-in feature inside the Instagram app that is completely free?

Instagram Insights

When Instagram Insights was first launched, it offered insights into a number of metrics, but since then, a number of key metrics that present valuable insights and information has also been introduced, which has made the feature and tool even more valuable, and even more competitive with third-party Instagram apps as there are few things that these apps tell you about that Instagram’s very own tool doesn’t.

Iconosquare

Iconosquare is one of the most popular third-party apps that give you detailed insights into your Instagram account’s performance. The desktop app provides both high-level and in-depth analytics, some examples are the total number of likes received,  the average amount of likes/comments per photo, your follower growth and much more.

InstaFollow

InstaFollow is an app that is available on both IOS and Android. The app provides insight mainly regarding your follower base.

Once downloaded the app, you’ll be able to use the following features:

  • See followers who you don’t follow back
  • Find users who you follow that don’t follow you back
  • Tracking new followers and followers
  • Follow and unfollow users with a simple tap inside the app

Apps like these are a great way of getting a better understanding of your followers and to learn how you can increase your following. They are very helpful in helping you analyze your Instagram account because as you may know, some of these features are things you cannot do with the Instagram app alone.

SimplyMeasured

This application focuses on giving a summary of your Instagram account so you’ll be able to see the results of the Instagram page (if you, for example, are going to show your team or boss the results you’ve generated on Social media. Best of all is that SimplyMeasured is FREE!

The web service is available for accounts with up to 25,000 followers. From then, you get an insight of everything from average engagement per photo, keyword analysis for comments, most active followers, the best time to post to receive the most engagement and a whole lot more!

Here are a number of other third-party apps you can check out as well:

  • Minter.io
  • Picture.io Influence Score
  • SocialRank

Analyze your Instagram account: Instagram analytics

This is the most extensively used tool to analyze your Instagram account. Maybe not the most in-depth and insightful tool, even though it has become more helpful and detail-rich for every year and with every new update, but it is undeniably the most popular Analytics tool for Instagram. Of course, this is maybe not that strange considering the fact that it is a built-in tool that can be used effortlessly as it is integrated into the app.

There are several reasons that Instagram introduced the analytics feature into the app.

First off, Instagram makes its money from businesses. It is financed by ads, and the ads are paid by businesses and brands promoting their products on the platforms. As such, the Insights feature was an attempt to make the app more friendly towards businesses and make the job of marketers and other people working with social media marketing easier, and most importantly, make it easier to measure and evaluate results.

Also, if you look at the different features that Instagram has introduced over the years, it’s obvious that Instagram wants its users to stay on their app. This is, of course, nothing strange. The thing is, if people go out and use third-party apps, it tells Instagram that the app is incomplete, and this isn’t something you want, right? An incomplete app.

Also, when people are using third-party tools, they have to leave the Instagram app, and this means that Instagram is ”losing” money because they obviously want as many people as possible to use the app as much as possible.

Initially, Instagram analytics only gave you information about things like reach, followers, engagement, etc. but now, it has become quite a powerful tool that will help you analyze your Instagram account incredibly effectively.

With Instagram Insights, you’ll be able to see the following information:

  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Saved: The number of unique accounts that saved your post
  • Profile Visits.
  • Follows.
  • Website Clicks.
  • Reach.
  • Impressions.
  • Stories Impressions.
  • Stories Reach.
  • Stories Tap forward.
  • Taps back.
  • Replies.
  • Swipe away.
  • Exits.

And much more…

How to analyze the information from your Instagram account

Okay, so you now have ways to access valuable key information about your page and its performance, but what should you do with that information?

You obviously don’t only want to analyze your account and just leave it at that.

Now that you’ve extracted this key information, you want to use it in order to improve and ultimately generate better marketing results. Sounds reasonable, right?

Well, first off, you should make it a habit to evaluate each and every campaign on Instagram after you’ve run it. But before you run it, you also need to set up goals. By doing this, you’ll then be able to evaluate whether or not you reached your goals. Obviously, the metrics you should focus on at firsthand is the metrics which you have goals to generate results within. What does this mean? It means that if your goal is to generate traffic with Instagram, then obviously the traffic metric is the most important metric you should be focusing on. Once you’ve done that, you can move on to other metrics if you’d like.

Here are some metrics that are valuable to keep an eye on when measuring and evaluating results:

Follower growth

This is something you can get information about both inside third-party apps and inside Instagram’s own analytics. If your goal is to grow your followers on Instagram, then obviously this is a metric you want to keep an eye on.

Site traffic

While Instagram isn’t known to be the number one platform for driving traffic, with the right approach and methods, it is very well possible to gain substantial traffic from Instagram. Both inside your profile analytics and inside Stories, you can see how much traffic you’ve generated.

Total reach

Reach is a very relevant metric for marketers. Obviously, you want to know the total number of people you’ve reached, and with Insights, you can see bot how many people you reached with individual posts, as well as with your profile.

Engagement

Instagram is a social media platform, and this means that the way you best drive success is by engaging and interacting with your audience. Engagement rate is incredibly important on Instagram because you want your audience to be engaged and interest in your brand and what you share. As such, if your goal is to use Instagram as a relationship tool to build better and stronger relationships with your audience the engagement metric is an important one to use to Analyze your Instagram account.

Conclusion

There are a ton of metrics to measure on Instagram, and setting goals is the first step to measuring results. Instagram is a social media platform that is all about engagement, and the best results aren’t generated by trying to actively sell on the platform but rather using it as a relationship tool to strengthen your customer relationships and increase your customer loyalty.

The most important part, however, is that you make it a central part of your Instagram strategy to consistently and regularly measure and Analyze your Instagram account. If you never measure results, you’ll never know what worked and what didn’t, and if you don’t know how you perform, it will be impossible for you to ever improve.
