A lot of people wonder what social media platform they should use, and this is actually a very good question so in this article I thought I try to break down the question “Which Social Media platform should you choose?”
As you might have guessed, the easy answer (and the answer we do not satisfy with) is that it depends. But what you should do before you decide which social media platform(s) you should do is determine who your audience is. Social media is very important for businesses today and it will play an even bigger role in the future. Do remember that depending on who your customers are (if you run a company) social media is not something for everyone. If you have a company where you sell socks for people who are 80+ years. Then social media PROBABLY won´t be something for your company. According to a study, the age on social media often ranges from around 15-50 years of age but there are of course some people who are older and some that are younger. If you therefore have these as your target audience, then social media might be something for you.
Now that you have decided on your audience you’re going to need to choose some social media platforms but Which Social Media platform should you choose?
There are some basic things you have to think about when trying to decide which platforms you wish to use:
Will I post photos, pictures or both?
Is my audience most women or men?
What will I post?

Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by posting (Pinning on Pinterest) images or videos to their own or others’ boards and browsing what other users have pinned. Using a visual orientation, the social network is very much focused on the concept of a person’s lifestyle, allowing you to share your tastes and interests with others and discovering those of like-minded people. The social network’s goal is to “connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting.” Users can either upload images from their computer or pin things they find on the web using the Pinterest bookmarklet.
Facebook is a great platform to use when you want to get personal and connect with your audience on a deeper level. People on Facebook usually have friends, family, and close affiliates added. Humans are curious creatures that always that want to see what is up and investigate things. You know what that means? It means that if one person shares something, it can be their friends, family or relatives that do it and since they’re close, they’re going to be curious and most likely check it out as well. That’s why Facebook can be very useful if you´re looking to spread something quickly. There’s also people of all ages using Facebook. Facebook’s users can vary between everything from 12 to 70 and there´s also stories of 100 years olds that use Facebook! The platform is therefore a great way to get personal and reach a very wide audience.
Instagram is one of the best social media platforms for photo and video sharing. You can share pictures of your products or a sneak peek of your upcoming book and create a hype around your company or page. Instagram allows you to post interesting things, add filters, and edit images. As well as comment, tag people, and like people´s posts. The most important thing on Instagram is that your content is good.
Twitter is a little different compared to the other platforms. The default settings for Twitter are public. Unlike Facebook or LinkedIn, where members need to approve social connections, anyone can follow anyone on publicTwitter. Users can add hashtags to a keyword in their post. The hashtag, which acts like a meta tag, is expressed as #keyword. A lot of people always re-tweet things that relate to their life and needs/wants. So you can tweet about things like that. Remember to engage with people as well, cause that´s usually when you get the best results on social media. Posting tweets that relate to people is normally really good for a constant growth and engagement also.
