Common Social Media mistakes
Running social media pages can be a tough job and there are lots of “don´ts” that you should avoid. In this article, we´ll be teaching you about common Social Media mistakes and how you can avoid them.
1. Beginning without a strategy/plan
This is a very common mistake, especially for companies that doesn´t use a social media manager or help from other experienced people. Not having a plan can mean that you begin with social media just to disappear, leaving lots of people with question marks and unanswered questions. Set up a clear strategy with goals and plans to make the chance of a social media success to be as good as possible.
2. Having several account posting the same things
A lot of companies do this in the hope of attracting more followers but social media do not work that way! Sure, in theory it may seem like that “If I have more nets, I will catch more fish” but the truth is-it doesn´t work like that on social media. If you instead focus on one page, you will build up your reputation and engagement but also when it comes to followings, it usually work like this: The more followers you have, the quicker you will get new ones.
3. Not interacting
This is actually a crucial mistake that both private persons and companies do. The lack of conversation with clients, potential customer and followers decreases value of your social presence and prevents you from building good relations with the followers.
4. Buying fake followers
This is unfortunately not too uncommon when it comes to businesses trying to build an image on social media. The problem is that fake followers are just that-fake. They don´t do anything except making your company look bigger than it is, and thats good. However, social media platforms are making purges every now and then, deleting fake accounts and bots and if you have mostly fake followers, you will stand with your tail between your legs when you lose most of them. 5. Posting Too Much
People choose to follow you because they enjoy what you do. This means that you: firstly have to post relevant content that defines you and that the followers expect from you. However, just because they like you/your page doesn´t mean they can´t get bored of your content. Decide how many times a day you should post and then check if that is a reasonable amount. 3-4 posts a day is considered to be a relatively reasonable amount.
6. Deleting Negative Comments and complaints
A big mistake you should avoid is deleting negative comments (referring to product complain etc). By doing so, you can make the customer/follower even more upset since deleting is a form of ignoring them. Instead of deleting the comment you should try to make that customer happy instead while showing the public your great customer service. It won´t however always be able to make every customer/follower happy, but at least you can try and convert the negative to something good. NOTE: Negative comments doesn´t include hate comments.
