Instagram Account Disabled For No Reason-What To Do?
Your account was likely disabled because you did not follow the Instagram Community Guidelines or Terms of Use. If you believe it was a mistake and would like to appeal the process, you can log in to the Instagram mobile app and follow the appeal process. See: My account has been disabled.
If you aren’t aware of why you’re account was banned, there are apps that violate Instagram’s terms of use by using their private API (which is not allowed) and therefore put you at risk of your account being banned.
One key way to determine if an app is using the Instagram Private API is if they request your Instagram username and password on the app without sending you to Instagram.com to log in using OAuth. The OAuth way is the safe and secure way. You have likely used OAuth many times before such as when you’re asked to “Sign in with ____” social network (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc..).

From Instagram’s Terms of Use:
“You must not access Instagram’s private API by means other than those permitted by Instagram. Use of Instagram’s API is subject to a separate set of terms available here:http://instagram.com/about/legal… (“API Terms”).”
Overall, Instagram has shown to be much more aggressive with banning/disabling accounts as compared to other social networks.
If you don’t know the reason for your ban, contact Instagram using the help form. That is the only way to contact them. They will email you and once you explain the problem you should get your account back within two weeks
If you think your account is disabled by some mistake, then, you may be able to Appeal For your account.
- Open Instagram app on your device.
- Enter username and password.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.

My account was deactivated for no apparent reason .HELP
Hi Pat!
I’m sorry to hear that. The things you can do is written in this article. I’m afraid you cannot do more than that.
Regards
I was in the process of creating a new Instagram when it said something went wrong. When I try to login using that information, thinking it just glitched, I get a message saying it was disabled for violating terms of service. I haven’t actually used the account yet so there’s no way I’m violating anything. No email notification sent from them confirming this. No idea what to do.
Hi Megan,
It sounds like a bug in the app. The best solution is to create a new account with a different email address.
Good luck!
