How to delete your Instagram account method 1: On mobile IOS

To delete your Instagram account using mobile, follow these steps:

1. Open the Instagram app. This will take you to the home page.
2. Tap the profile icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. (If you have a profile picture, you’ll tap your profile picture instead)
3. Tap the three dots icon in your profile. The option is located in the top right corner. This will take you to the Instagram settings.
4. Scroll down until you find ”Instagram help centre”. This option is almost at the very bottom of the page under the title ”Support”.
5. Tap ”Managing your account”.
6. Now, choose ”delete your account”.
7. Tap ”How do I delete my account” in the drop-down menu.
8. This will expand the text and give you more information about how to delete your Instagram account.
9. Now, tap the link with the anchor text ”the Delete your Account page”. This will take you to a new page which prompts you to log in to your account.
10. Log in to your account by typing in your username or email address, then type in your password.
11. Fill in a reason why you want to delete your Instagram account. To do this, tap the drop-menu and select the reason. If you don’t want to state a reason or, you can choose ”Something else”.
12. Now, re-enter your password by typing in your password in the text field one more time. This will confirm that you want to permanently delete your Instagram account. 
13. Lastly, tap the big button which says ”Permanently delete my account” This will. This will open a pop-up window which asks you to confirm.
14. Tap ”OK”.
15. Your Instagram account has been deleted.

If you wish to delete another account, click on your username at the top right of the page Remove your account and select Sign out. Log in to on to the account you want to remove, and then follow the directions above.

How to delete your Instagram account method 2: On a desktop

If you prefer, you can delete your Instagram account on a desktop instead. To do so, follow these steps:

If you want, you can go to the Instagram delete account page directly here: https://www.instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent/

1. Open up your browser and go to https://help.instagram.com
2. Log in to your Instagram account.
3. Click the profile icon in the top right corner. 
4. Click ”Edit profile” which can be found in your profile.
5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you’ll find ”Temporarily deactivate my account”.
6. Now, you’ll have a URL in your browser. Tap the URL and change ”Temporary” to to ”permanent”.
7. This will take you to the page which I linked above.
8. Here, choose the reason you are deleting your Instagram account.
9. Now, type in your password.
10. Tap The red button at the bottom of the page saying ”Permanently delete my account”.
11. Follow the remaining steps.
12. Your account has now been deleted

What happens when you delete your Instagram account?

When you delete your account, all the photos, videos, comments, likes, and followers disappear from the platform and you will never be able to recover them. Of course, nothing is ever deleted from the web, but you yourself will never be able to retrieve this information again.

When you’ve permanently deleted your Instagram, account, you won’t be able to register a new account using the same username, nor will you be able to change to that username of an existing account

For security reasons, Instagram cannot delete an account for you. Instead, you have to follow the steps above.

While everything should be removed directly, it might take a short while until all data from your account is deleted. Normally though, it disappears instantly.

How to deactivate your Instagram account

If you prefer to deactivate your Instagram account instead of deleting it permanently, you can do so. Temporarily deactivating your Instagram account is a good idea if you ever change your mind about deleting your account or just want to take a break from Instagram and not lose any of the data tied to your account 

Note that as opposed to deleting your Instagram account, when temporarily deactivating it, you can only do it on your desktop on Instagram’s website.

To temporarily deactivate your Instagram account:

1. Go to www.instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/temporary/ and log in to your account if you haven’t done so.
2. Fill in the reason to why you are disabling your account from the drop-down menu.
3. Re-enter your password
4. Click ”Temporarily Disable Account”

If you want to reactivate your Instagram account, all you need to do is log into it. When you log in, everything will be as usual and nothing will have disappeared, but during the time your account is deactivated, your account will be hidden as well as all the content and data related to it, which means people won’t be able to find it.

Note that you can only disable/deactivate your account once a week.
